- For the last 18 years, We have been running a development-based spring program.
- At this point, with the addition of the new development Lab, we are in a position to explore a more all-inclusive development program.
- Don’t worry, we are not completely replacing the current programs, but for the more focused athletes, we have an opportunity to add 3 significant elements to our top-level program
- Coaching in game system play.
- Time and access for more personalized training.
- Unlimited training time with advanced equipment
Skill training/ scrimmage play
This is like a continuation of winter programming. It can be used as a stand alone or as a compliment to participation in other programs or other sports.
Development and Part-time Player
Players who would like to do more but are not quite ready for the full commitment or the intensity required for full club play, can sign up for a minimum of 2 days a week and both enter in lower tier tournaments and divisions and serve as replacement players for the main club team.
If this is where the majority of the group sits, then that is OK too.
Caution
- The common level of club play is quite high (all-star level). There are not as many game opportunities for lower tier teams.
- As with all levels, our ability to form teams for lower tier tournaments is conditional on having enough participants.
Full Club Players
If we have interest from enough players to form a team core (7+players), we can run a full fledge Club program. This can either be a single team, or a larger core that would make up 2 teams. This program would tentatively proceed as follows.
- I would run the technical side of the program, while a parents committee would handle the administrative side with my assistance.
- We look for club teams that can develop organically with the potential to grow together. Although we do not require tryouts, we will accept the responsibility of keeping the best interest of both the individual and the team front and center before making and requiring a commitment. If a player is going to be required to play well above their current level to survive in meaningful minutes on the team they are looking at, we will make that clear at or before individual interviews and will look for an acceptable fit before we move forward.
- Our program will be taking an approach skewed heavily toward a shared accountability toward individual development and a structure that could lend itself toward a long-term year-round team program
- Each player would be required to schedule an individual meeting with parent(s) and myself to discuss individual goals and how we will all work together to achieve them. The program will also serve to ensure that our strategy for development and deployment of each player matches up with player/parent expectations.
- Each team would have a weekly mandatory team practice where team system play would be taught.
- Players would be required to attend 1 additional weekly instructional skills session.
- Players will be required to put in an additional 2 hours a week of independent training under supervision of a parent or coach.
- Games will be coached by myself and by selected volunteers who are committed to the program approach.
- Games will be coached competitively with an accountability/empowerment approach.
- Players will have an opportunity for regular minutes in the vast majority of games
- Players must be accountable to 4 principles could limit this opportunity
- Sportsmanship
- Maximum effort
- Commitment to training/preparation and to teams in game strategy.
- Health and foul trouble
- Coaches will reserve the right to limit lineups for competitive purposes where results serve the overall team interest. This will not occur for more than 20% of the time.
- If players are taken to a tournament with the intention of giving them limited time, it will be discussed before they commit to the tournament.
- The club season will be a 4-month commitment, with the program phasing in in March and running through to the end of June. There will be options to continue into the summer and even into the fall, but this will not be a prerequisite to joining the team.
- Each team will have the option to run a tournament and/or a camp to help reduce fees.
- Cost for the program would be as follows.
- $600 - 700 training fee for 4 months. This would include all training sessions.
- Unlimited access to the Net-Works Basketball Lab
- All fees associated with training and gym time
- A stipend for volunteer coaches
- Tournament insurance
- Does not include cost of uniform if required
- Does not include cost of tournaments (usually $750-$850/team for 4 games)
- Does not include anything additional that the team takes on that requires payment to an outside party.
- There is limited room for 1 partially subsidized spot on teams of more than 10.
- There are options for teams to run a tournament and or camp to further reduce fees.
