Net-Works / Intensity Basketball Development Lab

In designing our development lab, we were very purposeful in creating a facility that compromised nothing in the pursuit of our objective to become the most progressive, holistic, development centric facility in Alberta, while still maintaining our standard of the lowest pricing for our level of training.

We are extremely proud of what we have come up with as we provide a mix of the most highly rated training equipment, combined with a large number of original designs to ensure that members can train any and all aspects of their technical, physical and neurocognitive game under game simulated conditions without the need of a training partner.

Here are the results of our efforts. . .

Safe If athletes are training vigorously more than twice a week, it is critical that they train on a floor with proper cushioning for their joints. Most basketball facilities and recreation centers currently don’t offer a surface with appropriate cushioning, so we are installing an 8-millimeter rubber surface to ensure our athlete’s joint safety.

COMFORTABLE Players that train year-round in Edmonton, know that it can get unbearably hot in the spring/summer months. We will be one of the only basketball facilities equipped with air conditioning.

We also have access to the Creative Hive’s ‘Square One’ coffee shop and the many quiet seating areas where parents, siblings or participants waiting for their session can read, do homework or socialize while players are in session.

Accessible An accessible development facility is one that eliminates barriers to training. We have gone above and beyond in removing limitations by providing an unlimited-training membership that gives players access to up to 3 days of instruction a week along with regular training time in the development lab.

-            We run more than half of our programming outside the lab, leaving maximum flexibility for training time.

-            We offer extended business hours with over 90 hours a week of regular open building access.

-           We offer unlimited training with full access to instruction for as little as under $30/week (the cost of less than 1.5 hours of training at most basketball facilities in Edmonton).

Effective An effective facility is one that allows for the most competitive repetitions in the shortest time. It needs to remain compatible to a wide range of skills and skill levels and it needs to allow regular access to expert instruction and quality feedback.

-            Efficient- We will have 12 baskets, each with its own ball retrieval system, allowing for12 000 uninhibited shots / hour. 4-5 times what you could get in most other facilities. Tekk trainers, Vertimax and other equipment similarly allow players to get results in 1/3rd of the time.

-            Competitive RepetitionsOur proprietary design equipment along with ‘Fitlights’ and other equipment allow us to simulate competitive game elements of speed, reach and game level contact and quick decision making, without the need for a training partner.

-            Expert Instruction - We believe that our many training aids along with one of the best skill development coaches in the business provide us with a second to none ability to teach and refine skills at every level from beginner to national team level.

-            Scalable – All of our equipment and 2/3rds of our baskets are scalable to be effective for a wide range of ages / levels.

-            Feedback – Aside from expert instructors and intuitive equipment and drills, The Development Lab will be equipped with full-time high-quality video capture. Giving us the ability at any time to produce a copy of a workout for deeper instructor analysis, for participants to capture instruction from a coaching session or to review and visualize one own performance.

Holistic Finally, at Net-Works basketball we believe in a holistic approach that seeks to develop the whole person. Aside from a 30-year history of maximizing the development of a strong team concept, accountability and respect, we are endeavoring to develop more than just the fundamental skills of basketball.

-            Fitlights – We have purchased the world leading intuitive light program to allow athletes to further train their neurocognitive skills.

-            Vertimax and Flywheel – We have invested in the most sought-after equipment in resistance training. It will be our intention to allow all ages to improve core stability, injury prevention and explosive power without the complications and potential dangers of weight-based training.

Net-Works Basketball - Founder/Director Jamie Peers

Net-Works & Intensity Basketball - intensitybasketballclub.com

Entering its 30th year of operation, Net-Works Basketball was built on the premise that ‘no player, possessing the natural ability, commitment to the team concept and desire to succeed, should have their opportunity limited by their geography, school assignment or financial situation’.

In 2020, Intensity Basketball was born as a collaborative extension of Net-Works Basketball, geared to those who wanted to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of the complete basketball experience. It was here that the first seeds for the Net-Works/Intensity Basketball Development Lab were sown.

Founder and Technical Director/Coach - Jamie Peers

Having coached for over 30 years at every level from minis to the Canadian National Program, Coach Peers has been a pioneer on the Alberta basketball scene. As the founder of the first Alberta club team in the modern era, and as the first active technical director for both St. Albert SLAM and Northwest Edmonton Basketball, he has helped hundreds of players move on to post-secondary basketball and beyond.

Jamie is recognized for his strong technical instruction, his innovative approach to teaching the fundamentals of the game and his ability to ground players in the elements that will make them successful at every level.
